Manuel Vallejo belongs to the era known as Opera Flamenca, which despite
being close to us, has not been sufficiently studied. Between Romantic
flamenco and Operistic flamenco, one finds the Golden Era of this period
(1880-1920) the better aspects of which were maintained at least until 1936,
although intermingled at the same time it´s true, with the new fashions
which were gaining hold, eventually distancing it from the basics. There
was an amalgam, or mishmash of styles, artists and venues, and given this
variety of tastes, each individual had to become self critical and define
themselves.
This discography is made up of the following cantes: Bulerías, fandangos,
saetas, siguiriyas, granaínas, medias granaínas, malagueñas, tarantas,
cartagenera, alegrías, mirabras, verdiales, jaleo extremeño, soleares,
tangos, campanilleros, milonga and vidalita. If we add to this repertory the
local variations, personal styles and creative contribution we have no
option but to acknowledge that we´re in the presence of an exceptional
artist.
